Answered February 12, 2017. VLC does do DLNA and UPnP on OS/X with the newest version 2.2.4 - you have to have your firewall and sharing setup properly. Personally, I use an AnyCast all the time to cast my mac out, and use Plex if I want to cast into OS/X from Windows or Linux.
